Earn money with your charging station

Receive up to €500 per year for charging your electric car at home. Discover how the ERE scheme works.

What is the ERE scheme?

ERE stands for Emission Reduction Unit. It's a Dutch scheme where you're financially rewarded for reducing COâ‚‚ emissions by driving electric instead of using fossil fuels.

For every kilowatt-hour (kWh) you charge, an ERE certificate is issued. These certificates are tradable on the market and provide you with an annual compensation. It's comparable to SDE subsidy for solar panels, but for electric driving.

The scheme is designed to make the transition to electric transport financially more attractive and contributes to the Netherlands' climate goals.

How does the ERE scheme work?

The process is simple:

  • MID-certified charging station
You need a charging station with a MID-certified meter that accurately registers your charging volume.
  • Registration
Your charging station is registered with the government for participation in the ERE scheme.
  • Automatic certification
An ERE certificate is automatically issued for each charged kWh.
  • Trading
The certificates are sold on the market.
  • Payout
You receive the proceeds from your certificates annually.

You don't have to do anything yourself after installation - everything runs automatically through your charging station and registration.

What do you need?

To qualify for the ERE scheme, you need the following:

  • MID-certified charging station
The charging station must have a MID-certified energy meter. This guarantees that measurements are accurate and verifiable.
  • Own grid connection
You must be the owner of the grid connection at your address.
  • Charging station at home
The charging station must have an integrated kWh meter and be placed at your home.

At SunCharged, we only supply MID-certified charging stations that meet all requirements for the ERE scheme.

What does it yield?

ERE certificates are traded on a market. The current market price is around €0.10 per kWh. This means:

  • €0.10 per kWh charged electricity (may fluctuate based on supply and demand)
  • With an average consumption of 3,000 kWh per year: €300 per year
  • With 5,000 kWh per year: €500 per year
  • Compensation is paid out via your booking service provider (monthly, quarterly, or annually)

Future outlook: The emission reduction obligation for companies increases from 14.4% (2026) to 28.4% in 2030. Demand for ERE certificates will therefore increase, which may support the price.

This is a nice additional income that significantly shortens the payback period of your charging station. And most importantly: you actively contribute to the energy transition and receive financial reward for it.
